Go Green Winnetka-Northfield November 2015 Update

Give Thanks this Month for all the abundance we have in our local communities and pledge to conserve and protect our natural and other resources.

Monday, November 9:  Winnetka Caucus Town Hall Meeting, Skokie School Auditorium, 7:30pm.  The Winnetka Caucus will present its slate of endorsed local candidates to the community for approval.  The Caucus will also present the results of the annual survey regarding our Village, Parks, Schools, and Library, and the platforms developed from majority responses to each committee’s questions.

 

Thursday, November 12“Trashy” Fashion Show hosted by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County’s (SWANCC) held at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.  More than 40 one-of-a-kind artistic designs will grace the catwalk – all made from materials destined for the landfill or recycling cart including:  used tablecloths; sheets; foil lids from K-cups; textile scraps; Halloween costumes and prom dresses; dryer sheets; shopping bags; news/wrapping/tissue papers; assorted plastics; blankets; curtains and more.

 

Sunday, November 15:  America Recycles Day, a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful, is the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting environmental citizenship and encouraging individuals to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  If you have questions about what you can recycle in Winnetka, check out the Village’s Recycling Guide here.

 

Green Tip:  TAKE YOUR plastic bags, FILM, AND WRAP TO GROCERY STORES ALL YEAR!   Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, ziplock & other re-sealable bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags may be recycled at local stores all year round.  All materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue.
