New Historical Exhibit Opens at the Elm Street Metra Station

The Winnetka Historical Society, The Hudson Company and the Village of Winnetka partner to tell the lively story of the railroads and their imprint on Winnetka’s history.  Why are our railroad tracks below street level?  What was the North Shore line? How did Winnetka resident and U.S Secretary of the Interior,  Harold Ickes, influence the “Big Dig” track depression and the creation of the Skokie Lagoons. How did these mammoth WPA and the CCC projects of the 1930’s  change Winnetka? These stories are told in a new exhibit on display at the Elm Street Metra Station. The exhibit will be available for viewing Wednesday, August 5, when the train station is open. Stop by to learn about our progressive (and impressive) history.  Watch for an official exhibit opening and celebration to be held in September. Stay tuned….
