Cars of American is now in Evanston

Evanston, IL—Having spent 51 years in the automotive repair industry, Bob Dupre, owner of CARS of America in Glenview and Evanston, IL, has seen many changes. Car makes come and go, and technology changes rapidly. He believes the key to staying in the business is understanding the one thing that never changes: People.

“People can be wary of auto repair shops,” Bob says. “The customer often doesn’t know whether or not they really need the repair the shop is recommending. That is a breeding ground for consumer distrust and skepticism. A reputable shop will take the time to explain their recommendation, and they won’t be offended by your questions. Seventy percent of our customers are women, and they want to understand our recommendations before they agree to repair work. They have taught us how to be better communicators.”

CARS of America in Glenview has earned 5-star reviews on Google, Angie’s List and Yelp and a loyal customer base because Bob and his team focus on service to the customer, not just the vehicle. He believes there is a better way to do business in an industry that is filled with distrust. Now he is bringing that business mindset to Evanston. In early November, CARS of America opened the Evanston location at 2650 Green Bay Road.

“Every time a client visits, they can expect us to review the vehicle’s service history, perform an inspection and find the solution to any concern. We present the information to the customer so they can decide if it makes economic sense to spend money on the issue. Whether they have everything, some or none (and replace the vehicle) of the repair work done is up to them, but we owe it our clients to keep them informed,” Bob says.

But what if you plan on keeping your car for 10-15 years? According to Brian Blohm, a managing partner and employee of 22 years,“We have a lot of people who do just that and they never have a breakdown. The reason is because they have preventive maintenance performed. It is much less expensive to do regular maintenance than to pay for costly repairs that could have been avoided.”

Evanston car owners can find Bob and his team next door to Dunkin Donuts. People can drop their car off in the morning, get a free cup of coffee next door, courtesy of CARS of America, and then be driven to and picked up from the Metra or CTA station, home or work.

Is there room for another automotive service center in Evanston? Bob Dupre believes there is always room for a service facility that specializes in excellent customer care, as well as excellent car care.
