In honor and memory of relatives and friends who have been affected by breast cancer Rib and Stitch Yard Shop has partnered with KnittedKnockers.org, and their store became an approved collection and distribution center for knitted knockers.

What are Knitted Knockers?

“Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthesis is usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, and beautiful, and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. They are provided free to those requesting them. Knitted knockers can be adjusted to fill the gap for breasts that are uneven and easily adapted for those going through reconstruction by simply removing some of the stuffing.” (https://www.knittedknockers.org)

Rib and Stitch has the patterns for knitted or crochet ones, as well as a large stock of HiKoo CoBaSi yarn, which is one of the preferred yarns for this project. One hank of CoBaSi will make a pair of Size C knockers. Crochet pattern may take a bit more yarn than knit. These prosthesis need to be made from DK weight, soft washable blend, since they are worn against scarred, sensitive tissue.
